Wife of Weezer Bassist Faces Charges After Alleged Armed Confrontation with Police

Jillian Lauren, best selling author and longtime partner to Weezer’s low end legend Scott Shriner, is now facing the harsh spotlight, not for a memoir, but for an armed encounter with Los Angeles police that turned into a bizarre real-life standoff. Back on April 8, chaos unfolded outside the couple’s Eagle Rock home when LAPD officers, chasing down suspects from a hit and run, ended up in Lauren’s backyard. But instead of finding suspects, they found her, armed with a 9mm handgun. According to police, commands to drop the weapon were ignored, and when Lauren allegedly aimed the gun at officers, they opened fire, hitting her in the shoulder.

She barricaded herself inside the home but surrendered not long after. What followed was a media frenzy, an author with a dark, investigative edge now tied to a criminal case of her own.

Lauren was treated for her injuries and released on a $1 million bond. Originally booked for attempted murder, the charges have since been lowered. She now faces two felonies, negligent firearm discharge and assault with a semiautomatic weapon. At her arraignment, held April 30, she entered a not guilty plea.

Police recovered the firearm from the scene. No officers or bystanders were injured. Authorities haven’t linked Lauren to the original hit and run case that brought police to the area, and motives behind her actions remain unclear. Lauren is no stranger to dark subject matter, her books Some Girls and Behold the Monster peeled back the layers of trauma, crime, and serial killers. But this time, it’s her own story making headlines. At the time of the incident, she was reportedly recovering from cancer surgery.

Meanwhile, Shriner has kept a low profile, off the mic and off the record, though he did take the stage with Weezer at Coachella just days after the shooting. Rock never sleeps.
